Hmm, my instinct says:
1. Keep the Supra, the resale value should still be solid for next few years (so opportunity cost is low)
2. Go Mazda3 turbo. Great handling driving dynamics and upscale inside almost Mercedes-like. Wife and kids will dig it.
3. Pocket the money you saved and get some stupidly amazing tires and track time.
Profit!

If none of the above, maybe go used Giulia Stelvio. Those are pretty hot.

I had an 2019 M4 Comp before the Supra. As a daily it is a better car. Back seat is surprisingly roomy. What I didn’t like is that the M3/4 kind of went away from what the M3 was supposed to be and the M2 filled that role. I feel like the M3/4 is somewhere between a 4 and a 6 series now. It felt very numb. After upgrading to GTS software coding it felt better but still didn’t feel right. The M4 felt (actually is) very big car. Some complain about DCT being jerky but I think that is more of a learning thing. I did at first but once I got the hang of it I didn’t have any issues. Loved the styling of the car though. I wanted something a bit more nimble so the Supra fit the bill. If I could have them both, I would.

If you are going to take the wife and kids - just buy the M3 and be done with it.
If the goal is to transport the family in comfort in a fast manual car comparable in performance to the Supra, G80 M3 is the only answer I can come up with. Is M4 really as usable?

I see the issue as ride quality. While M3/M4 gain useable back seats, the bumpiness or stiff suspension may be a deal breaker. Only way to know is take wife and kid on a test drive on an average road. Should know within a few minutes.

I think it may come down to whether you really want or need one car that does it all?

I was considering a path into a g80 for that reason. It then occurred to me that I don’t drive in a “fun” manner with my kid in the car (tuned GTI). I only drive how I like to drive when he’s not in the car, and when he’s not in the car, I take the Supra.

I respect the G80, but I don’t desire it as a do everything car now.

I’m now considering getting rid of the GTI and getting a truck. This path opens more doors for me. I can participate in any motorsport or car activity I want with the Supra, and a truck fills the other end of the spectrum with ability to carry outdoors stuff, go off road, and ultimately tow cars & things.

Just something to consider if more than one car is an option for you.

I've come to the conclusion that when i get to this situation, rather than the one car fits all approach i'm more likely going to get a second car, with 4wd, 4 doors, decent power and practicality.
And then go all out weekend with the supra. Bigger turbo, Port injection etc.

I can't see myself just owning a Supra. I'd have to take a bicycle to work since mine is lazy and 99% of the time in Park.. :ninja:

I drove a friend's new manual trans M4. The shifter was terrible: vague and rubbery. The dash was also too video gamey for me.

Interesting. I had no plans of switching to a G8X. I owned an F82 6spd before the Supra. My brother works at a BMW dealership and he let me drive a 6spd G82 for about an hour and I absolutely loved the shifting feel. The smoothness of it was great for driving without getting jerked (which was a huge issue on the F8X.

I'm #1 on the list for a 6spd G8X at his dealership. & ideally will be able to keep both the BMW and the Toyota. If not, the G8X has the Supra beat in almost every way (at least to me)

I've been debating switching to an F82 M4 ZCP for about 60 days now that prices have come down significantly. The M4 has lots going for it - like the DCT, better interior quality, much more room etc but ultimately I decided to keep my Supra and modify it slightly. The Supra looks just so outstanding - I mean that literally, nothing on the road looks like it. Plus it's 5" lower than the M4, weighs 300lbs less, makes better noises and gets 35+ mpg highway (I drive lots oh highway miles). Just my humble thoughts...

I actually really like the G8X front end once the grille is changed to the GT3 style, and overall it has really grown on me:
