Thanks for the mention @zrk . The B48 is a pretty fantastic platform for those more interested in the twisties and track, than straight raw power. However, with the JB4, Jesse DaBears tune and a solid E30 map (which he absolutely nails), you can make it night and day from stock.

Check out my 2.0 thread here to get an idea of my journey when I had the B48. Nearly a year's worth of modding and details in there. The bump up in price within this current market for the 3.0 will be steep (that's why I didn't go for it initially, as it was 10-11k more). The B58 can be a handful, no doubt too much for many; but with that they are highly capable, respond to mods beautifully and the sound and topend of this inline6 is just amazing. I literally just started my build for the 3.0, so I'm eager to get more seat time, get some more quality mods on and enjoy this ride ;b

The short of it, get the 2.0 if you could care less about 450-500hp. On my B48, I managed 4.1 to 60mph (would have been faster if I could properly hook on a launch, lol) and a 12.7 in the quarter mile (for most that's more than enough performance). That was of course after working with Jesse on a rock solid 93 tune and then going up to E30.

Jesse is the go to guy for tuning on the A90 (especially the JB4, he has over a decade of experience on this excellent piggyback and I've ran it with zero issues on my Golf R, Type-R and Supra). Be sure if you go that route to get a nice ethanol analyzer kit (I ran the Fuel-it kit). It shocks me some people skip installing this cheap part, as it could be absolutely catastrophic with just guessing your fuel for E85 mixes. For added fun, throw on a Fi Exhaust for some excellent sound on the 2.0 (IMO the best sounding exhaust for this platform), plus the @ARMASPEED CAI is a must too for all those amazing turbo noises; spooling and flutters sound incredible after this is on.

If you do want that extra performance, turbo inline6 sound and insane aftermarket support however, save up and get a used 3.0. I had multiple offers and declined the first few on my 2.0, but then I managed to get around MSRP for it almost a year of ownership. Finding a really mint low mileage 3.0 is tough though. Took a lot of work but I finally snagged a 2021 B58 (wanted this year b/c of the huge list of improvements they implemented). It was only on the road for 3 months with around 3.5k miles and it was in Renaissance Red, the only other color I wanted if it was gonna happen. Read up as much as you can and watch all the videos you can spot on YouTube for good comparisons and opinions on both platforms. Best of luck, I think you'll really enjoy either one a TON honestly. Both are incredibly fun, unique, handle beautifully and really turn some heads ;b
Thanks for the detailed response! Yeah, I am not going for straight line power much anymore; I had a 2016 SS Camaro before this, so I've have my time with the straight line power. My goal is to get something relatively efficient that's lightweight, but I also want a quality interior. The Supra 2.0 checks most of those boxes--minus the wireless charging. With that being said, I already have a plan to remedy the wireless charging situation. As for the seats, I don't care about heated seats; the 2.0 suede seats are a bonus over 3.0 IMO.

I do plan to install a "bolt-on"exhaust system at some point. Given that I get the CAI recommended, would I need a tune for it?

If I do get the itch for more power, I will be sure to reference this post for the go-to parts and people! Thanks.

Sounds like the 2.0 is a perfect fit for your needs and goals. No tune needed for a catback exhaust or CAI. I do highly recommend the JB4 and Jesse's Pro tune though for even just a strong 93 Map. It's untraceable unlike a standard flash tune, so no worries on voiding the powertrain warranty. Either way, you'll really enjoy this one around the track and curvy roads. Keep us updated ;b

I would take heated seats over wireless charging lol.

my prime had the wireless charger and maybe its because I have iphone mini but it didnt work for shit. Either stop working after a minute or phone overheats. I dont use my phone enough to really matter I guess.

But the heater on supra takes several minutes to start working... the prime had a heat pump that was really fast and of course the i3 is nearly instant.

Regarding exhaust, a huge amount of noise actually comes from activesound, especially in sports mode. I was not happy with exhaust sound until I turned ASD off (with bimmercode). It's actually reasonably quiet for a gas car now. Recommend you try that first.

Also, yes--the wind buffet is going to be annoying because riding with windows down is something I enjoy. Actually, thinking about it--that could ultimately cause me to not get the car.
Don't let something that can be fixed for like $15 sway your decision. The wind buffeting thing is basically a running gag at this point

I fixed it on my car with pieces of a wiper blade I dug out of the trash. True story.

My honest opinion? Power is power.

The 2.0 is not a fast daily. The real world 0-60 or 5-60 with a street start (no launch mode) is roughly 5.6-5.8 seconds. That’s slower than a Mustang Ecoboost stock.

You can modify which is a great option. With modifications, you could make it much faster than a stock 3.0 as the thread shows. But are you actually going to do this? You have to budget for parts and also an engine if anything goes wrong (no warranty).

You’ll miss the E-LSD on the Supra

Lastly, the sound will never be on the level of a 3.0. I’ve rarely ever heard a modified 4 cylinder car period that sounded good, real world. And certainly not on the level of a 6/8 cylinder.

Do what you want though, there are benefits to the 2.0 like much lower weight etc.

+1, it takes a $8 item from Amazon and like 10 minutes to fix this issue. Way overblown in terms of actual impact.

GR Corolla or GR86

hit up my boy @mokleen, he has a solid reserve spot for a GR Corolla
I would for sure rather have a GR86 or 2022 BRZ over the 2.0 Supra, more engaging+direct, manual, cheaper. Obviously 3.0>GR86 though lol

Yeah, I did some research after the fact. It turns out there is a very simple, affordable fix for the issue.

Hey, everyone. So I am still waiting for CarMax to release the 2.0 for a test drive. Apparently, they are taking forever to process the title work for the vehicle.

Unfortunately, it looks like CM is changing their 24HR test drive policy; any car over $60k--or a Mustang, Charger,Challenger, Corvette, Camaro--cannot be taken for a 24Hr test drive. Oddly enough, the manager also said any other sports car is up to their discretion. He said this insinuating that the Supra falls under that discretionary policy. Hopefully, he will approve the 24HR test drive.

Given that I want to, it will be difficult for me to test drive the Supra 3.0 for an extended period. I will have to be satisfied with the 20 minute drive on that one.

EDIT: I am not sure if this policy change is exclusive to my store, or if it is a global policy change. So, don't take this as gospel for your local CarMax at this time.

Are you aware the wind buffeting can be fixed for $15? Its one of the cheapest mod around.
