Clutch slipping after 2 months of ownership

supra is back. manual supra is back. money ≠ skill. it's not solely car enthusiasts who will purchase this car lol.
OP provided zero information as to what symptoms he was experiencing prior to taking the car to the dealer. context points to a sudden even of failure, not progressive clutch slipping, random smell, discovery of leaks, etc. OP contradicts himself with wanting aftermarket and then stating he's going to lawyer up. bad vibes. begone

So just for more context. Car was completely fine up until this day. Literally no signs of any issues until it would not get in gear while the car was on. toyota actually reached out yesterday saying they are willing to cover 50% of the labor but still unsure if I want to proceed this way since it is almost cheaper to just buy an aftermarket clutch.

just since some people are saying I can’t drive. Ive been driving manual pretty much all my life. My c7 z06 is still on the original clutch at 50k miles. Not trying to start anything but it seems like other people have had this issue as well. A shop near me just had another manual at 2k miles.

I will update as I get more info but it seems like Toyota is trying to do something about the issue at least. Sorry for getting people butt hurt but I never said anything bad about the car, I actually love it which is why I am fixing the issue and not trading it in.

Right, so the dealership should do this: Mr Customer, we will investigate the cause of your clutch failure. You will be responsible for this diagnostic work. However, if it's determined that your clutch failure was due to a faulty part and not due to anything you did, then the entire cost will be covered under warranty.

Yep, that's the way it should be in this particular case. A technical issue until proven otherwise.

Well props to the dealer then because the dealer did not charge for the diagnostic. What my sales advisor told me was that Toyota did not want to provide the parts since it’s not under warranty.

Now I'm lost. I thought the problem was a slipping clutch and it was somehow identified as needing a new clutch assy and flywheel per your first post but now it was all fine until it wouldn't select a gear with the engine running? The latter normally means the clutch won't release. Who identified the clutch and flywheel needed replacement in the first place? I assumed from your early post when you talked about taking it to another dealer that no work had been done on the car. Just trying to understand the full story here.

Sorry again. So the events go like this up to about 500 miles 0 issues at all the same day the car would not get into gear is the same day the clutch was slipping. I assuming the slipping clutch was the reason for the car not wanting to go into gear while on but I am not a mechanic. The car was towed to the dealership which told me the clutch assembly was needed and the flywheel had damage. Hopefully that clears things I am not sure exactly what happened but this was all the same day. I had a friend over who told me to move the car into gear while the car was off and had no issues which he told me ruled out the transmission but again I don’t know.

Ok thanks for the clarification. You really need to know how the dealership came to the conclusion the clutch assy and flywheel needed replacement. Have they stripped it down or just "shot gunned" it is the question.

This is dead right. Without removing the transmission to inspect and confirm the issue, it's literally the equivalent of condemning an engine that "lacks power" without so much as a compression & leakdown test, or a borescope inspection. I'm having trouble imagining something that looks more foolish and amateur than this kind of behavior.

This is the weirdest and lamest shit. Ever wonder if Toyota put these paper fragile clutches in just so they can repair them for steady revenue to recoup the manual engineerings costs lol? And if the wear and tear item is improperly installed (like our suspension being rolled off the lot with the spacers??) or there’s a manufacturers defect, shouldn’t that be covered? Apparently no, but wtf.

I would like to see pictures of the flywheel/clutch assemblies. I owed one since Fed. with 6k miles on it and I have no problem.
It could be the master or slave cylinder caused the problem. Make sure you have them to check out those components.

So it’s been a rough couple of days but the car is scheduled to be taken care of on December 15th. Won’t have pics till after that but I’ll make sure to post everything

Had mine since march, new. I've abused it, street raced, drove it daily. (femto, meth, tuned) clutch still held up perfectly fine. Had ordered the FX350SS from ClutchMasters along with their Hydro bearing. Fx350ss is definitely semi-aggressive, I don't recommend for daily but great upgrade for futureproof; I spoke with CM and I might swap it out for the FX250SS for the daily driven comfort. Other than that, just like previous comments, imho you still spend less than pure transmission upgrades, much cheaper route than Toyota/BMW.

What did CM says the torque limit was for the FX250SS?
