His butt dyno needs calibration. Since the manual Z is about a 12.8s car and the stock Supra is a 12.1 car... that garbage open diff on the sport also cut like a 5.65 0 to 60, which was like half a second slower. So the open diff manual at 40k would probably be a close race to the 2.0. It'd trap a lot more I'm sure, but both are probably right at 13.3.

The new Z in all the reviews has body roll for days. But yeah the suspension is a wash...
He had them both right there, he could of lined them up real quick for some content we actually wanted.

Agreed. Except for the dash cluster and a few other bits, it doesn't look appreciably better than my 350Z did... and it was almost $10K cheaper (although adjusted for inflation not nearly that much).

I got my 07 350z for 29k (before taxes and such) and it was the enthuiast model (base model with lsd and hid headlights). The new base model is close to that with inflation, so I would consider it a good price if it had a LSD. The performance model, nah. You getting ripped off.

Honestly, I would rather have my old 350z back before the new one. Manual trans and all, I got it to run a 12.7 in the quarter mile. That was with basic bolt ons and a tune.

Im of the opinion that if you’re looking for pure power for dollar and want something JDM, the base Z makes a lot of sense. Seems like a good tuner car and I can see people taking out the seats and such for aftermarket solutions. I can see it doing well against the Supra 2.0, since you’re getting 400 horsepower vs sub 300 on the 2.0.

But against the 3.0? Supra all the way imo. The Z had an advantage with the manual trans, but now the Supra is getting one I don’t see much of a reason to get the Z personally.

Toyota does the same thing. The 5th gen 4Runner is in its 12th production year and it’s chassis is a 4th gen chassis with some small tweaks/reinforcements.

Right, but I was mainly referring to their two sports cars, the Z and the GT-R. 350Z from 2003-2008, and 370Z to 2009-2020. That's 16 years of the same platform. And the GT-R 2007-2021. 14 years.

Not saying they have to always make any sort of dramatic changes, but if you look at a Porsche 911 which has evolved every 3-4 years. Every new generation you would think they couldn't make it any better, and somehow they do, while keeping up with the latest tech and features.

It's really fascinating and outright mind blowing the new Z is using the same 370Z chassis introduced in 2009.

Base vs base boils down to if you want a nicer interior or two cylinders. The good old American mentality of bigger is better leads me to believe the latter will be more popular in the states.

Considering I paid somewhere between 52-53k (before taxes) for my premium supra, the z is by far not a good deal like it was supposed to be. Of course, that is assuming the leaked prices are legit.

I saw one reviewer state his Performance Z was $53.6K as equipped from Nissan. That included $400 carpet floor mats.

The base numbers circulating are complete horseshit. No one is getting a Z at those prices.

I'm not a fan of the interior especially the base variant but I can see the logic in what Nissan did. Many folks don't care for all that nice interior fluff and gadgets, just a blank canvas with 400hp at 41k. The base guys will spend more money modding most likely but it will be more tailored to individual taste.
