Both are very nice cars. ATs are faster and have better gearing and fuel economy. The MT just feels so good and has better traction.

I test drove both before buying. Went with the MT.

I don’t think there is any difference in reliability between the two.

BMW manuals are shit. Always have been. If your heart is set on a manual car, there are better manuals to be found. If your heart is set on a Supra, then the auto is better. Personally I shift the auto manually with the paddles. Best of both worlds. I've driven both the auto and the manual, and the auto Supra is just better. The manual "purists" don't want to hear it, but it's just true. If you want a fantastic manual, look at a used Cayman, a Civic Type R/Integra Type S, hell, even the manual in my GR Corolla is better than the one in the Supra.

Wow a manual vs auto thread been a good minute since anybody came up with an original idea. Be sure to start another thread on what oil you prefer on a manual car vs an automatic one when you decide what you want op…
It takes zero effort to ignore the post and move on. Instead you chose to provide nothing of value or substance

OP- I'm bascially a manual only guy. However I tried the Supra with AT anyway to see how I like it. Given the 2020's exhaust is quite loud (as how I like it) making all sorts of burble/fart noises shifting up and down, and how quick the car is all together, AT on is car is just correct. The AT can handle boat loads of power too if you want to add more later. It's the way to go.

The 2021+ Supra's aren't nearly as loud as my 2020, so if you ever get bored of it, I suggest changing out the exhaust. GL with your purchase. ?

Looks like you've made your decision but I'll add another 'no problems here' post with the 23MT probably at 5000km now.

I had a 20AT, always used the paddles, but just got bored with it. Having much more daily fun with the MT.

The internet has turned casual enthusiasts into automotive hypochondriacs..

I've owned both auto and 6sp MKV. They're both great at what they do, so go with what you really want.

Good thing this isn't a BMW manual then.

If you commute in stop/go traffic for hours at times, a manual will get old really fast.

No it doesn't. ?

You know what does get old real quick though? Being in the twisties and wondering where that third pedal is. And going a few tenths faster in a straight line. And saying to anyone who asks at a car meet, "No, it's an automatic." ?‍♂

I'm searching for a new car and it appears that manual cars are plentiful compared to autos. I don't want to pay 58k for a used car when I can get new for 60k. I've read about clutch slipping issues with the manual so I'm leaning toward the auto. I know that I would really enjoy the manual but I do NOT want to deal with a warranty claim with my local dealership (zero confidence in their ability. Tacoma is my daily). Is my apprehension warranted? Is the manual reliable? I don't plan on big power, just intake, downpipe and exhaust. I know that the ZF8 is bulletproof (previous N55 335i owner) and I won't have any issues. Any advice is appreciated! Perhaps a poll? manual owners only. Issues or No issues.
I have an MT for almost two years now. Zero issues.

It’s really personal preference and what you want. I always ended up upgrading the clutch in my manual track cars. They probably make a race clutch at this point. If that’s what you really want…

The first 10 pax positions at an autocross are typically separated by a few tenths. i’ll take the tenths.
I’ve been an autocrosser for getting close to 40 years now and did track days when I was younger. This is the first performance car I’ve owned with an AT and I won’t go back.

But thats my use case. There’s no denying the MT is more engaging and I really enjoy running MT cars as well. I also get a kick out of the ridiculously quick full throttle shifts this trans can do in Sport+ mode. Both trans are fun in different ways.

Just pick what you like best and best fits your goals. There is no wrong choice.
