I told my neighbor about this thread. He's a race instructor and driver. He agrees with me. That settles it auto > manual.

He said manual is more fun but auto is faster and better for racing.

Yea auto is fast, depreciates faster too.
But is that because auto or because supply? There are far more autos than manual, correct? Still true, but idk if it's cause better or cause less available.

When both auto and manual version exists, auto depreciates faster, just history to me. It’s just demand, which is why Toyota is doing the manual after coming out with auto only. Even Ferrari has to do a new manual that kinda tells what the market demands.

"Market" yet it's a dying and fading tech that will be gone soon ...I imagine. I don't want to say a number cause I'll probably be wrong because of the disgruntled "market"

Actually how is Europe these days on auto vs manual? Are they phasing manual out too?

When looking at the same year and miles, I’m seeing similar prices for auto and manual; low $50Ks and up. Of course there are older and higher mileage autos out there and those are obviously cheaper than low mileage examples. I was looking at used autos before buying a new ‘24, and it wasn’t much more to buy new.

I'm not sure the same rates of depreciation of manual vs auto will be the same with the MKV as it was with MKIV and prior generations. The ZF8 is very good, holds its own, and may be more desirable than a manual in select use cases. I think both will be highly sought after.

I don’t argue with history. When a performance car was offered in both auto and manual, the manual ones almost always will be more sought after when it is discontinued. If you know a performance car that is not the case, I’d be very interested to know.

Lol. No, when you have friends sometimes you talk to them and tell them things. I understand if you don't know how that works. I could see why

Of course auto is typically faster, because it takes one more element out of the hands of the driver (literally) and puts that responsibility onto a computer. Ever money shift mid lap and blow an engine? I had a student do just that and it was a very humbling moment for the guy.

BUT again, why buy a sports car if you are going to use every nanny piece of technology you can like an automatic transmission? Defeats the whole purpose of what driving a sports car is. At that point just get an electric car and slap it on auto pilot ?‍♂

Anyways, back to shit posting ?

Counter question: Why bother chasing hp if you're going to slow yourself down by seconds? And IDK how that makes sense...so the whole purpose of a sports car is to ensure you have a stock to jack off...err a manual shifter and a pedal to foot fk? I thought sports cars were all about speed, power and looks, but maybe it's all about your transmission...why not just buy a transfer and put for wheels on it and rotate on the shifter if that's all a sports car is?
